Yong Chen is an Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering and Chief Engineer of COMAC (Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China), where he serves as Chief Designer of the C909 regional jet family. Over a career spanning nearly four decades in aircraft aerodynamics and avionics systems design, he led the development of China's first domestically designed regional jet aircraft, achieving a historic milestone for China's civil aerospace industry. Under his leadership, the C909 entered commercial service and full-scale production, and has been delivered to operators across 12 countries, safely carrying over 30 million passengers. He established China's airworthiness validation framework for regional jet aircraft and directed the aircraft's continuous series development, significantly enhancing its international competitiveness. His work has been recognized with the First Prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, the National May Day Labor Medal, the inaugural National Outstanding Engineer Award, among other honors.
